A few words about my educational background and approach to massage therapy:
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry back in 1994, worked in this area for about three years, then took time off to start a family. After ten years as a stay-at-home mom, I went back to school for Massage Therapy and graduated in 2007 from Lakeside School of Massage Therapy.
As soon as I finished massage school, I began continuing education in CranioSacral Therapy and have completed Levels I and II, and both levels of SomatoEmotional Release. I was fascinated with this gentle form of therapy and how it works with the meningeal membrane system of the brain and spinal cord to encourage the body to correct its difficulties on its own--it acts as a catalyst for the body.
Since CranioSacral Therapy influences the fascia, or connective tissue of the body, sometimes even far removed from the brain and spinal cord, I have done some self-study of Thomas Myers' Anatomy Trains and the author's theory of myofascial meridians. These meridians are "lines" of related muscle and fascia that tend to become shortened together. This assists me in finding possible causes of pain or imbalance in the body.
As of November 2015, with a trip to Albuquerque, NM, I have completed all four levels of Neuromeningeal Manipulation offered through the Barral Institute. This is also gentle work using principles of CranioSacral Therapy, which again involves the fascia, specifically that around the nerves themselves, and freeing restrictions within it that may have been caused by trauma.
I have taken additional continuing education in Body Memory Recall, Massage for People Living with Cancer, and Compassionate Touch. I am also a Second Degree Reiki Practitioner. I look forward to learning still more especially in the areas of the acupuncture meridians, applied kinesiology and energy medicine and to sharing this knowledge with my clients.
